LeBron James and Bronny James became the first father-son duo to play together on the same team in the NBA on Sunday during a pre-season game against the Phoenix Suns.
Bronny, on his 20th birthday, made his court debut in the second quarter of a 118-114 defeat to the Suns. Never before had a father and son played in an NBA game of any type—including pre-season—at the same time.
“WOW THAT WAS SURREAL,” LeBron wrote on X following the match.
Speaking to media, LeBron said, “We came out of a timeout, and we kind of stood next to each other. I kind of looked at him. It was like being in The Matrix or something. It just didn’t feel real. But it was great to have those moments.”
LeBron James scored 19 points, including four assists and five rebounds, while Bronny went scoreless in his 13-minute run, accumulating two rebounds and four turnovers.

Bronny, a second-round draft pick from the University of Southern California, joined the Lakers in June. LeBron James, a 39-year-old NBA veteran all-time record point-scorer, and four-time NBA winner, is set to enter his 22nd season in the NBA. Following Bronny’s arrival, he signed a new two-year contract with the Lakers.
The 2024-25 NBA season commences on October 22, with the Lakers playing against the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Boston Celtics facing the New York Knicks.
