Dr. Volker Wissing Commends Rwanda’s Offerings at ITB Berlin 2025 Amid Aid Controversy

At the ITB Berlin 2025 exhibition, Dr. Volker Wissing, Germany’s Federal Minister for Digital and Transport, visited Rwanda’s stand and expressed his admiration for the country, despite the backdrop of recent controversies regarding Germany’s cut of aid to Rwanda. The aid reduction stems from accusations that Rwanda is supporting M23 rebels in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

During his visit, Dr. Wissing emphasized the longstanding collaboration between Rwanda and Germany, particularly with the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. He encouraged visitors to discover the remarkable country, highlighting its wonderful people and stunning natural beauty. “Rwanda offers a unique exploration opportunity,” he stated, noting that every visit reveals the warmth of its citizens and breathtaking landscapes.

Despite the ongoing tensions and allegations surrounding military involvement in the DRC, Dr. Wissing focused on Rwanda’s notable achievements in tourism and sustainable development. He praised the country’s excellent infrastructure and impressive economic growth, reaffirming that Rwanda remains an attractive destination for tourists.

The remarks from Dr. Wissing reiterate the complex relationship between Germany and Rwanda, reflecting both the challenges of diplomatic relations and the positive aspects of cultural exchange. As discussions about foreign aid continue, Dr. Wissing’s visit to the Rwandan stand at ITB Berlin serves as a reminder of the enduring possibilities for collaboration, even amid geopolitical challenges.

As the exhibition unfolds, Rwanda seeks to position itself as a key player in the global tourism landscape, inviting attendees to experience its beauty and the opportunities it presents for travelers in search of unique adventures and cultural immersion as well as Business.
