President Kagame Visits Algeria’s National School of Artificial Intelligence

This week, Rwandan President Paul Kagame toured the National School of Artificial Intelligence (ENSIA) in Algeria, highlighting Rwanda’s strategic focus on advancing AI education and innovation. During the visit, Kagame engaged with cutting-edge AI developments, including drone technology and student-led projects that demonstrate ENSIA’s commitment to creating solutions for critical sectors such as health and agriculture.

Notably, Rwanda is making significant strides in AI integration, with five Rwandan students currently enrolled in ENSIA’s rigorous combined bachelor’s and master’s program in AI and Data Science. This partnership exemplifies Rwanda’s commitment to building local expertise and fostering regional collaboration in artificial intelligence.

Kagame’s visit follows a recent trip to ENSIA by Rwandan Minister of ICT and Innovation, Paula Ingabire, on June 1, 2025. Her visit underscored the deepening partnership between Rwanda and Algeria in the AI domain and marked a step forward in the broader Pan-African effort to stimulate cross-border technological collaboration.

ENSIA’s focus on developing AI solutions for sectors like health—mirroring Rwanda’s own initiatives such as its partnership with Babylon Health to expand mobile healthcare access—aligns with Rwanda’s digital transformation goals. Kagame’s engagement with these innovations reflects a shared commitment to leveraging AI for sustainable development.

This high-level exchange comes ahead of the upcoming Pan-African AI Summit scheduled to be held in Ghana later this year, which aims to foster continental cooperation and accelerate innovation across Africa. Rwanda’s active participation in these initiatives signals its position as a key player in the continent’s AI revolution.
