Bugesera Village Head Accused of Falsely Crying Wolf, Alarming Residents
The village leader is screaming at night.
Bugesera, Rwanda – Residents of Ruzo Village in Bugesera District are calling for the removal of their village head (Umudududu leader), accusing him of disturbing the peace with nightly cries for help that turn out to be false alarms.
Villagers claim the leader has been repeatedly shouting for assistance in the middle of the night, causing widespread concern and disrupting their sleep. “Our village head is behaving strangely,” one resident told TV1. “He screams without any reason. We wake up to find out what’s happening, but when we arrive, he just tells us, ‘I need you to help me.'”
Another resident alleges the leader’s behavior is fueled by alcohol. “He’s completely drunk, walking around the village shouting,” they said to TV1. “You can tell it’s just his nature.”
Residents are questioning the leader’s fitness to hold his position, pointing to a previous suspension from the office and his subsequent return to office under unclear circumstances.
Leader Admits to False Alarms, Claims it’s a “Security Exercise”
In an unusual twist, the village head has admitted to shouting for help at night, but defends his actions as a necessary tactic to test the community’s responsiveness to emergencies.
“I raised the alarm so that we can see security, how citizens help each other,” he explained to TV1. “In this country, if you raise the alarm and no one comes to help, then the country is in danger.” He added, “It was an exercise to see if citizens were able to rescue, but I found that this did not happen.”
Sector Official Calls for Suspension
The leader’s explanation has done little to appease the concerned villagers. Sibomana Jean Claude, the Executive Secretary of Rweru Sector, has responded to the situation, stating that the Village Leader should be suspended immediately.
The incident has raised concerns about the leader’s judgment and his ability to effectively serve his community. The sector leadership will now decide the Village Leader’s fate and oversee the election process.
