Gakenke District Rallies for Transformational Growth as Leaders Call for Unity and Strategic Investment

Gakenke District has revived momentum toward inclusive growth, with leaders and stakeholders rallying behind a shared vision captured in the theme: “Joining Efforts to Build a Capable Citizen of Gakenke.” The gathering served as a critical platform to assess the district’s development milestones, reflect on existing challenges, and chart a renewed path toward sustainable progress.
Bringing together government officials, development partners, and members of the Gakenke diaspora, discussions emphasized collaboration as the cornerstone of meaningful transformation. Participants reviewed key achievements across sectors while also identifying gaps that require urgent and coordinated action to accelerate development and improve the livelihoods of residents.
Delivering a compelling message, Mugabowagahunde Maurice, Governor of the Northern Province, urged district leaders to adopt a more inclusive and enabling approach toward citizens originating from Gakenke but working elsewhere. He stressed that these individuals represent a valuable resource with the potential to drive innovation, investment, and community upliftment.
“We must actively support our people who are working beyond the district but are willing to invest back home. Their projects can significantly contribute to economic growth and improve the welfare of our citizens,” he noted.

The Governor highlighted the importance of removing bureaucratic barriers and creating a conducive environment that encourages investment from the diaspora. By doing so, he explained, Gakenke can unlock new opportunities for job creation, entrepreneurship, and knowledge transfer, ultimately benefiting the broader community.
Echoing similar sentiments, Judith Uwizeye, Minister in the Office of the President and the district’s overseer, commended the strong commitment demonstrated by Gakenke natives living outside the district. She acknowledged their willingness not only to invest but also to actively participate in addressing pressing socio-economic challenges affecting their home communities.
“It is inspiring to see how Gakenke citizens living elsewhere are eager to contribute to the district’s development. We must ensure that they are supported and facilitated in their investment efforts so that their contributions can yield tangible results,” she emphasized.

The Minister underscored the need for strategic partnerships between local authorities and investors, calling for streamlined processes and policies that promote ease of doing business. She also encouraged local leaders to maintain transparency and accountability in managing development initiatives to build trust and attract more investors.
Throughout the discussions, participants reiterated the importance of unity and shared responsibility in achieving long-term development goals. The theme of the meeting resonated strongly, reinforcing the idea that sustainable progress depends on collective action and a citizen-centered approach.
Gakenke district continues its development journey, the outcomes of this coordination signal a renewed commitment to harnessing local and external resources for the common good. With strengthened collaboration, supportive leadership, and active citizen engagement, the district stands poised to transform its development aspirations into reality building not only infrastructure and economic capacity, but also a resilient and capable community ready to thrive in the years ahead.
