INES Ruhengeri Students Celebrate Sudan’s Rich Heritage During Pan-African Culture Day
MUSANZE, Rwanda – June 5, 2026 – Members of the Pan-African Movement (PAM) INES Ruhengeri Chapter gathered on Friday for a vibrant and educational Culture Day session dedicated to exploring the culture, traditions, and heritage of Sudan.
Held at INES Ruhengeri in Musanze District, the event brought together students from different backgrounds to celebrate one of Africa’s most culturally rich nations. Through documentaries, cultural presentations, traditional dances, and discussions, participants gained valuable insights into Sudan’s history, geography, cuisine, and social values.
The session opened with a documentary that introduced participants to Sudan’s diverse regions and historical significance. Students learned about the country’s unique cultural identity, natural beauty, and important landmarks that have shaped its place in African history.
Among the attractions highlighted were the ancient Nubian Pyramids of Meroë, Suakin Island with its historic coral-stone architecture, Sanganeb Marine National Park, Port Sudan’s Red Sea coastline, the confluence of the Blue and White Nile in Khartoum, as well as Dinder and Radom National Parks, and the scenic Jebel Marra mountain region.
Organizers said the Culture Day initiative seeks to promote cultural exchange, strengthen Pan-African unity, and encourage appreciation for the diverse traditions that exist across the African continent.
Beyond geography and history, participants explored Sudanese cultural values that continue to unite communities throughout the country. Presenters emphasized the importance of hospitality, generosity, respect for elders, strong family bonds, and community solidarity—values that remain central to Sudanese society.
One of the most engaging segments of the event focused on Sudanese cuisine. Students were introduced to traditional dishes such as Gurasa, a soft flatbread often served with meat and sauces, Salaat stew, and staple foods including Kisra and Asida, which are widely enjoyed across different regions of Sudan.
The highlight of the session was a series of traditional dance performances presented by Sudanese participants. Representing different regions of Sudan, the performances featured energetic movements accompanied by singing, drumming, clapping, and traditional rhythms.
The dances captivated the audience and created an atmosphere of excitement and celebration while showcasing the cultural diversity and unity of Sudanese communities. Participants enthusiastically joined discussions and shared observations about similarities between Sudanese traditions and those found in other African countries.
Throughout the event, students actively engaged in conversations about cultural preservation, African identity, and the importance of learning from one another. The exchanges reinforced the ideals of Pan-Africanism and highlighted the role of cultural education in fostering mutual understanding among African youth.
Participants concluded the session with a renewed appreciation for Africa’s rich cultural heritage and the importance of preserving traditional knowledge for future generations.
According to PAM INES Ruhengeri Chapter leaders, the Sudan Culture Day session successfully achieved its goal of promoting cultural awareness, strengthening unity, and creating a platform where students could celebrate Africa’s diversity through learning and interaction.
The event ended on a positive note, with participants expressing admiration for Sudan’s heritage and reaffirming their commitment to promoting Pan-African values of solidarity, respect, and cultural exchange.
