MP commends Local NGO for changing Citizens ’Lives in Shyogwe sector

A member of the Rwandan Parliament has commended Hope of Family, a local Non-Governmental Organization, for its continued efforts to alleviate citizens from the poverty as well as to enable their children have access to education.

Speaking to the beneficiaries of Hope of the Family activities in Shyogwe Sector of Muhanga District in the Southern Province of Rwanda, Hon. Uwanyirigira Gloriose, a member of the committee on Social Affairs said that “Activities of Hope of Family are well aligned with the Government priorities which include to ensure the well-being of the citizens, have access to Social and Health services, among many others.”

Hon. Uwanyirigira was speaking on Wednesday, 27th Feb, 2018 during an event organized by Hope of Family to showcase what the organization has achieved so far, what are key priorities for this year and how poor families are benefiting from its work.

The primary goal of Hope of Family which was launched in 2016, is to promote parental involvement in their children education while improving families’ socio-economic status.

Families and Hope of Family staff agree on the contract terms to sign in order to effectively support their children and raise their school performance.

 Parents agree to visit their children on the weekly basis, provide more after-school time for their revision, respond sooner to teacher’s or any other school leader’ invitation to discuss about the child’s learning.

According to Aimable Mpayimana, Founder and Executive Director of Hope of Family, this organization targets low-income families identified alongside with the local administration   for the timeline of two years.

After two years supporting the Families, Hope of Families graduates them and continues to select others so that they are also supported with the aim of alleviating them from the rampant poverty.

Uwanyirigira said “Without going into details, what the Government wants is really being done here.”

She added that the country needs such partners who are contributing to the well-being of “Our citizens.”

The Key partner of Hope of Family is Running Chicken, a San Francisco-based non-profit that partners with a local organization in rural Kenya, Rwanda, DRC to kick-start community designed and owned development projects.

Speaking to TOPAFRICANEWS, Jessica Bylo Chacon who is the Running Chicken Board member said “We have decided to partner with Hope of Family because we share same values.”

Her organization’s mission is to provide resources so that grassroots solutions that respond to authentic community needs can be developed, tested and implemented.

 “Jessica’s work is really inspiring us. Being involved in social works, Jessica is also supporting other organization which is working towards healing the wounds left by the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi.” Hon.Uwanyirigira revealed.

It is expected that 100 families will benefit from Hope of Family’s supports such as getting school materials, talent detection among children from poor families, training beneficiaries on various income generating activities, Community Literacy program, farmer feed school, Health Insurance payment, Sanitation facilities, One cow per poor family, rehabilitation of houses, Helping families to have Kitchen garden and designing and launch of development project that will benefit at least 20 poor families.
