Rwanda: Agric expo postponed due to Covid-19

The 15th edition of the annual agriculture exhibition that was scheduled to take place at the agriculture exhibition showground at Mulindi, Gasabo District this year has been postponed owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Talking to The New Times, Jean-Claude Musabyimana, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, said that it is expected in the next  season because it is the only season favourable to agriculturalists to exhibit their products.

“We are still discussing with the private sector, but the dry season is the most appropriate time to exhibit agricultural products. This is because farmers have already harvested their products and are ready to exhibit them”, he said.

He added that the uniqueness of this year’s expo was that it was merged with the African Green Revolution Forum.

More than 4,000 foreign guests were expected in this meeting and were among the exhibition’s participants.

“You are aware that Rwanda had been selected as a host of the African Green Revolution Forum in this dry season. This would have been more beneficial for us, because we were even planning to launch some green revolution devices that would help us in drying crops, pumping water and irrigation”, says the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture.

These annual agriculture shows normally held at the Agriculture Exhibition showground in Mulindi, Gasabo District, attracts 7,000 to 10,000 visitors.

Agriculture is the biggest employer in the country.
