The talks follow a recent round of talks between the two countries on the border between Rwanda and Burundi where they agreed to promote the exchange of information on anything that threatens the sovereignty and security of another country.

Burundian Minister Shingiro said “We came as the Burundian Government because we want to restore our relations, the relations which detoriarated years ago.”

Relations between Rwanda and Burundi were strained in 2015 when President Pierre Nkurunziza, who was running for a third term, ran for office, sparking unrest that left many people fleeing to neighbouring countries including many refugees in Rwanda.

These days Thousands of Burundian refugees are also expected to return to their homeland in addition to hundreds who have already returned since recently.
