Appointment of the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, Fr. Théogène Havugimana
Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – On May 5th, 2021 Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed Rev. Théogène Havugimana, of the diocese of Nyundo (Rwanda) as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Belgium for a five-year period (2021- 2026).
The new National Director was born on 1 January 1978 in Nyange-Ngororero (Rwanda) and was ordained a priest in Rwanda in 2006.
He was a teacher at the St. Pius X minor Seminary in Nyundo (2003-2004; 2006-2008), carrying out the pastoral ministry also in the parish.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Pontifical Urbaniana University (2006) then the various academic degrees and obtained a doctorate in Philosophy at the Catholic University of Louvain (2018).
He was chaplain for Catholic English-speaking students at Diepenbeek University in Belgium (2010-2013) and for the French-speaking community in Leuven (2010-2016).
Since 2016 he has been carrying out the pastoral ministry in the parish of Haacht (Belgium), since 2018 he has been a member of the organization for foreign priests and since 2019 he has been a member of the Presbyteral Council.
Since 2015 he has been teaching online for the major Seminary in Kabgayi (Rwanda).
