Due to the severity of the crisis in the Horn of Africa, the U.S. changes the special envoy for the region

The United States has decided to appoint Ambassador David Satterfield as its new special envoy for the horn of Africa, TOP AFRICA NEWS has exclusively learnt from the U.S Africa Regional Media Hub.

In a Press Statement released by Anthony J. Blinken, Secretary of State
on January 6, 2022, it is clear that Ambassador Satterfield is believed to be in a position to deal with the ongoing crisis in the horn of Africa.


In a statement, the Secretary of State explained that current envoy to the region, Ambassador Feltman has done his assignment, however, the ongoing instability in the Horn of Africa and the region’s interlinked political, security, and humanitarian challenges demand sustained focus by the United States, explains Secretary Blinken.

“Ambassador Satterfield’s decades of diplomatic experience and work amidst some of the world’s most challenging conflicts will be instrumental in our continued effort to promote a peaceful and prosperous Horn of Africa and to advance U.S. interests in this strategic region.” He said.

“I deeply appreciate Ambassador Satterfield’s willingness to take on this role and look forward to working with him closely in this new capacity.” He added.

According the statement, Ambassador Feltman will continue to serve the State Department in an advisory capacity, working closely with Sec. Blinken and Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Phee.

“We are fortunate to be able to rely on these two extraordinary diplomats in support of U.S. diplomacy amidst the regional challenges and opportunities we face.” Concludes the statement.
