Rwanda National Police briefed students at Don Bosco Gatenga TSS on the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

On 28 February 2024, Rwanda National Police conducted a meeting at Don Bosco Gatenga TSS to educate students on the prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA).

The meeting, led by S.P of Police Ms. Umuhozali Irene, aimed to raise awareness and provide guidance on how to avoid and prevent such harmful behaviors.

During the meeting, students were encouraged to ask questions and share their concerns about SEA. The police expressed their appreciation for the collaboration between the school and the local government in ensuring the safety and well-being of the students.

S.P Umuhozali also tasked members of the Gender club to organize a competition focused on the avoidance of SEA and drugs. This initiative aims to further educate students on these important issues and promote a safe and respectful environment within the school.

The meeting was a successful opportunity for dialogue and cooperation between the school and the police. By working together, they are taking proactive steps to prevent SEA and ensure the safety and well-being of all students at Don Bosco Gatenga TSS.

The Gender Matters for Green TVET Project has recently implemented a policy on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment and abuse at Don Bosco Gatenga TSS. This policy is a crucial step in creating a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.

This policy was developed by experts following a specialized research conducted at institutions involved in the Gender Matter for Green TVET Project, specifically in Rwanda, the research targeted Don Bosco Gatenga TSS and Don Bosco Muhazi TSS which are part of this Project that is also being implemented in three other salesian Technical schools in Uganda.

 The project aims to enhance the education of girls in technical courses and is funded by the Austrian government in partnership with Jugend Eine Welt and implemented by the Salesians of Don Bosco.
