Rwandan Female Journalist Makes History by Winning OFAB Africa Media Awards 2024

Lilongwe-Malawi: 13th December, 2024: Annonciata Byukusenge, a Rwandan female journalist, has made history by becoming the first Rwandan woman to win the Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology-OFAB Africa Media Awards. Byukusenge was awarded runner-up in the Print and Online Category at the Africa Competition on Science Reporting focusing on Agricultural Biotechnology. Byukusenge was also recently awarded by OFAB Rwanda as the overall winner of the 2024 OFAB Rwanda Media Awards

Byukusenge expressed her gratitude and excitement upon receiving the prestigious award, stating, “I am honored to be recognized for my work in science reporting, particularly in the field of agricultural biotechnology. This award is a testament to the importance of highlighting scientific advancements in agriculture and their impact on communities.”

She also emphasized the significance of promoting science communication and encouraging more women to pursue careers in journalism, saying, “As a female journalist in Rwanda, I am proud to represent my country and inspire other women to enter the field of science reporting. It is crucial to raise awareness about the role of technology in agriculture and its potential to improve food security and livelihoods.”

Byukusenge’s achievement not only showcases her dedication to excellence in reporting but also highlights the importance of amplifying diverse voices in science communication. Her success serves as an inspiration to aspiring journalists, particularly women, to continue pushing boundaries and breaking barriers in the field of science journalism.
