Somalia and Algeria Discuss Strengthening Health Cooperation in Tunis

Tunis, Tunisia, June 16, 2025 – The Minister of Health and Social Care of the Federal Government of Somalia, Dr. Cali Haji Adam, who is on an official visit to Tunis, Tunisia, held a fruitful meeting today with the Algerian Minister of Health, Mr. Abdelhak Saihi.

The meeting is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation among African Union member states, particularly in developing health systems and responding to emergency situations.

The two ministers held in-depth discussions on enhancing bilateral health collaboration and agreed on several key areas:


• Creating training and capacity-building opportunities for Somali health professionals.
• Sharing Algeria’s advanced experience and expertise in improving healthcare services with Somalia.
• Collaborating in the fight against infectious diseases, especially those arising from emergencies and natural disasters.

Minister Dr. Adam expressed his gratitude to the Algerian government for its role in strengthening international cooperation, noting that this partnership could serve as a gateway to improving Somalia’s healthcare services.

This new cooperation is part of the Federal Government of Somalia’s broader efforts to restore its international relations and reestablish its role on the global stage, especially after years of political instability and insecurity.
