AFC/M23 Rebels Defend Kibati After 3days Of Intense Fighting

The town of Kibati remains under rebel control after three days of intense gun battle as government troops supported by Burundian forces and Wazalendo militia attempted to retake the territory.
Kibati is located in Luberike area of Walikale territory in North Kivu. The battle for control of Kibati started on Saturday.
The army and the Wazalendo, who had recaptured a large part of Kibati during the clashes, ultimately withdrew to the villages of Miba and Mungazi.
The withdrawal allowed the AFC/M23 rebels to reoccupy all the positions they had lost during the fighting.
According to our sources on ground, traffic on the Mungazi–Kashebere axis is completely suspended.
Travelers and transporters are currently stranded on both sides, in Mungazi and Kashebere, awaiting an improvement in the security situation.
