Landslide Kills 200 At Coltan Mining Site in DRC

The DRC government has confirmed that about 200 people have died after a massive Chunk of land slid over them.

According to government, the victims include 70 children .

The landslide struck Rubaya, the country’s biggest source of coltan.

The mines in Rubaya under rebel controlled territory are thought to hold about 15% of the world’s coltan supply and half of the DR Congo’s total deposits.

The Kinshasa authorities said rescue efforts after Tuesday’s landslide were hampered by dangerous conditions, which they blamed on restrictions imposed by rebels on civilians.
