Dr. Frank Habineza: Good Governance Must Remain Green Party’s Top Priority

The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda (DGPR) on June 20, 2026, launched the establishment of its sector-level structures, beginning in Cyanika and Rugarama sectors of Burera District, in a move aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots organization and citizen participation across the country.
The launch was presided over by the party’s president, Dr. Frank Habineza, who oversaw the election of sector-level representatives, including members of the Sector Party Committee, Women’s Committee, and Youth Committee.
Addressing party members, Habineza reflected on the Democratic Green Party’s history, values, and commitments to improving the well-being of Rwandans. He emphasized that good governance should remain a key priority for all party members.
“Respecting one another despite our differences is one of our core principles. We support a society free from all forms of discrimination, whether based on religion, ethnicity, skin colour, or any other factor. We strongly reject anything that divides Rwandans,” Habineza said.
He also reminded members of the party’s commitment to environmental protection and encouraged them to continue contributing constructive ideas that promote national development.
Habineza further called on Green Party members to actively participate in local government elections as a way of strengthening democratic engagement and contributing to the country’s development.
“We encourage our members to take part in local elections and continue offering ideas that help build the nation. We would be pleased to see some of our members elected to district leadership positions, serving as mayors or deputy mayors,” he said.
According to the party, the establishment of sector-level structures represents an important step in strengthening grassroots democracy, citizen participation, and the organization’s operational capacity at the local level.
The program is expected to be rolled out across all 416 sectors of Rwanda as part of the Democratic Green Party’s broader efforts to strengthen its nationwide structures and deepen engagement with members and citizens at the grassroots level.
