Qatar’s Emir and Kazakhstan President Extend Independence Day Wishes to Rwanda
The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, have extended warm Independence Day greetings to President Paul Kagame and the people of Rwanda, reaffirming the strong diplomatic ties and growing partnerships their countries share with Rwanda as the nation marks the 64th anniversary of its independence.
The congratulatory messages, delivered on July 1, 2026, underscore Rwanda’s expanding international relations and the growing recognition of the country’s role as a trusted partner on the global stage.
According to a statement released by the State of Qatar, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani sent a message to President Paul Kagame conveying his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Government and people of Rwanda on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan also sent a congratulatory message to President Kagame, extending his warm wishes to all Rwandans as they celebrated the historic national occasion.
In his message, President Tokayev described Rwanda as one of Kazakhstan’s trusted partners in Africa and expressed confidence that the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries would continue to grow for the mutual benefit of their peoples.
The messages from the two Heads of State reflect Rwanda’s steadily expanding diplomatic engagement with countries across the world and the growing confidence international partners continue to place in the country’s political stability, economic progress, and development agenda.
Relations between Rwanda and Qatar have continued to flourish in recent years, with cooperation spanning investment, aviation, tourism, infrastructure development, and trade. The two countries have built a strong strategic partnership through a number of high-profile projects that continue to shape Rwanda’s economic transformation.
Among the most significant initiatives is the planned acquisition by Qatar Airways of a 49 percent stake in RwandAir, a move expected to strengthen the national carrier’s competitiveness and expand its international route network.
Qatar also holds a 60 percent stake in the construction and development of Bugesera International Airport, one of Rwanda’s flagship infrastructure projects that is expected to position Kigali as a regional aviation hub.
Meanwhile, Rwanda’s relationship with Kazakhstan has also gained remarkable momentum. During President Kagame’s official visit to Kazakhstan in May 2025, the two countries signed several bilateral agreements covering areas including trade, investment, agriculture, technology, education, and diplomatic cooperation, laying a strong foundation for deeper collaboration.
Rwanda celebrates Independence Day every year on July 1, commemorating the country’s attainment of sovereignty in 1962 after the end of Belgian colonial rule. The day serves as a reminder of Rwanda’s journey toward self-determination, national unity, resilience, and sustainable development.
