Sleeping Children Around The World (SCAW)in parternship with Rotary Club of Kigali Virunga ( RCKV) Makes Successful Bed Kit Distribution Despite Challenging Weather
Southern Province, RWANDA – In a heartwarming collaboration between Sleeping Children Around The World (SCAW) and the Rotary Club of Kigali Virunga (RCKV), a remarkable achievement was realized. A total of 565 bedkits were successfully distributed to underprivileged children across two distinct locations, all made possible by the dedicated efforts of Dr. Doug MacDougald, the SCAW team lead, and Rotarian OJI Chukwuemeka I. donoji, a devoted Rotarian and serial Entrepreneur.
This benevolent undertaking was carried out in partnership with Sleeping Children Around The World (SCAW) and the Rotary Club of Kigali Virunga (RCKV), and the positive impact is expected to touch the lives of approximately 5,000 children within five districts.
On the 2nd of October, 2023, the first day of distribution presented formidable challenges for the teams. While the morning distribution at a Kamonyi school proceeded relatively smoothly, the second site in Rukomo, nestled high in the district’s hills, faced the fury of torrential rain, causing a delay in the proceedings. Undeterred by the adverse weather conditions, the teams persevered, and as the rain finally subsided, they accomplished the distribution under the cover of nightfall.
“It was indeed a long and demanding day, but it proved to be an invaluable learning experience,” shared donoji. “The most significant triumph is that we successfully delivered 565 bedkits to extremely grateful, albeit wet, children. This represents a significant stride towards our mission of making a difference, one child at a time.”
The following day heralded a fresh start for the SCAW and RCKV team. With clear skies and the sun casting its warm glow, they embarked on their journey to the next distribution site. Along the way, the team was treated to a breathtaking sight of local farmland, a testament to the unwavering determination of farmers who cultivate steep hillsides using only hand tools.
Despite the challenging journey over a rugged, rain-battered clay road, the team reached their first distribution location of the day. Thanks to their dedication and teamwork, the distribution proceeded smoothly, ensuring that more children received the much-needed bedkits.
As they made their way to the second distribution site, the team encountered an uplifting scene. Children, carrying their newly acquired bedkits, trekked several kilometres from the distribution point back to their homes. This poignant sight underscored the immense value and significance of the bed kits for these children, highlighting the profound impact of the Rotary Club’s efforts.
“We were deeply moved to witness the children embracing their bed kits with gratitude and determination,” expressed donoji, a proud member of the Rotary Club of Kigali Virunga (RCKV). “It further fortifies our commitment to continue making a positive difference in their lives and empowering them for a brighter future.”
The collaboration between SCAW and RCKV shines as a beacon of hope, proving that even in the face of challenging weather, the power of compassion and dedication can bring warmth and comfort to the lives of those in need.
