Tanzania Lifts Ban on Kenya Airways Flights
Tanzania said on Tuesday that it had reinstated approval for Kenyan national carrier Kenya Airways (KQNA.NR) to operate flights between Nairobi and Tanzania’s commercial capital Dar es Salaam.
The country announced on Monday that it had banned Kenya Airways flights after Nairobi refused to allow Tanzania’s national carrier, Air Tanzania, to operate cargo flights between the two countries.
Tanzania stated on Tuesday that its request had been granted.
“Following this development, the aeronautical authorities of the United Republic of Tanzania hereby withdraw its decision of 15 January 2024 and therefore approval for Kenya Airways to operate… between Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, is hereby restored,” The state-run Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority issued a statement.
Tanzania has been investing heavily in reviving its national carrier since 2016, expanding its fleet, routes, and operations to serve local and regional markets.
Kenya Airways is one of Africa’s largest airlines, and Tanzania, where attractions such as mountains and vast wildlife reserves attract over a million visitors each year, is one of its most important markets.
