Kigali Cine Junction Film Festival Returns for its Second Edition with an Exciting Lineup of Films and Interactive Events

The highly anticipated second edition of the Kigali CineJunction Film Festival is set to captivate audiences from August 1st to 4th, 2024. Celebrating both international and local films, this vibrant festival is a cornerstone of Rwanda’s cultural scene, fostering a rich cultural exchange and promoting cinema literacy across the region.

Building on the success of its inaugural event, Kigali CineJunction 2024 aims to celebrate and elevate Rwandan cinema while providing a platform for filmmakers from around the world to connect and collaborate. The festival seeks to cultivate a culture of cinema literacy in Rwanda, bridge the local film scene with the international scene, and contribute to making Kigali a cultural city and destination.

Key Highlights:

Film Screenings:

  • International films such as Love and Basketball by Gina Prince-Bythewood will be featured on a giant open-air screen in the Kigali Car-Free Zone (Imbuga City Walk). Other screenings will take place at the iconic, newly renovated Mayaka Cinema alongside a diverse selection of films from Rwandan filmmakers, including the much-anticipated Bazigaga by Jo Ingabire Moys, Night Shift by Kayije Kagame, and Alberta’s Room by Victoire Karera.

Masterclasses and Panels:

  • Renowned filmmakers and industry experts, including  Eliane Umuhire and Luckman Ali,  will lead masterclasses and panels on topics such as Black Aesthetics in Cinema. These sessions are designed to foster professional growth and provide valuable insights for aspiring filmmakers.

Kigali CineJunction is dedicated to creating a shared cultural experience by connecting international films with regional audiences. The festival aims to unite industry professionals, fostering a vibrant community and networking opportunities. By offering high-quality films and stimulating conversations, Kigali CineJunction enhances the appreciation and understanding of film as an art form and promotes Rwandan cinema, inspired by global storytelling that connects with international viewers.
