Rwanda Pig Breeders Association Members Attend Agriculture and Livestock Exhibition in Belgium
Members of the Rwanda Pig Breeders Association (RPFA) recently participated in the Agriculture and Livestock Exhibition, known as Foire de Libramont-2024, held from July 26 to 29 in the city of Florenville in the Luxembourg Province of Belgium. This marked the third time that Rwandan pig farmers have taken part in this annual event.
The exhibition serves as a platform for farmers and breeders to exchange knowledge and expertise, with a focus on utilizing modern technology to enhance the value of pig breeding in Rwanda. The theme for this year’s exhibition was “Foire de Libramont 2023: L’agriculture, une histoire sans faim? Elevons, cultivons, transmetons”.
Jean Claude Shirimpumu, the representative of Rwandan pig farmers in RPFA and Director of Agribusiness Farm Ltd, highlighted the importance of attending the exhibition for gaining valuable insights. He mentioned learning about feeding practices, farm management techniques, insemination advancements, and meat preservation methods.
Shirimpumu also emphasized the significance of collaboration with organizations like Enabel, a Belgian Development Agency that supports the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources. The participants from Rwanda, including breeders from Bugesera, Rusizi, Rwamagana, and Musanze districts, expressed their eagerness to increase livestock production to meet market demands both domestically and internationally.
The Foire de Libramont is considered one of the most important fairs in Europe, attracting thousands of visitors and exhibitors each year. With a wide range of products and innovations on display, the exhibition provides a valuable opportunity for farmers and breeders to stay informed about the latest developments in the industry.
