Don Bosco Gatenga TSS Honored with Trophy and Certificate of Appreciation for Promoting Gender Equity in TVET

Gatenga, 13 December 2024 – In a heartfelt celebration of the Teachers’ Day 2024 in Gatenga Sector of the Kicukiro District, Don Bosco Gatenga Technical Secondary School (TSS) received a prestigious Trophy and Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of its exceptional contribution to promoting gender equity through the groundbreaking initiative, “Gender Matters for Green TVET.” The School also was recognized among the best performing schools in Gatenga Sector.

The award highlights the unwavering commitment of Don Bosco Gatenga TSS to empower young women and girls by creating inclusive opportunities in technical and vocational education.

This initiative has been a beacon of hope for many, fostering an environment that champions equality and sustainability.

Local leaders and representatives from the Gatenga Sector applaud the school’s role in shaping a brighter and more inclusive future.

Their collective appreciation underscores the significant impact that Don Bosco Gatenga TSS has had on advancing both gender equity and green education in the community.

“This recognition is not just for us but for every young woman and girl dreaming of a better future in the fields of technical and vocational education,” said Ms. Uzamureba Clementine, the Gender Officer at Don Bosco Gatenga TSS during the ceremony.

“We are dedicated to fostering equality and ensuring that our students are equipped with the skills they need to thrive in a sustainable world.” She added.

Commenting on this recognition, Ms. Prossy Ogwang, the Gender Advisor for the Gender Matters for Green TVET Project explained that “This accolade stands as a testament to the collaboration and support we receive from the Gatenga Sector,”

 “We are immensely grateful for their partnership and commitment to empowering our youth through education.” Ms. Prossy said

“We are here to celebrate our teachers and reaffirm our commitment to supporting the educational journey of young people, together; we strive to empower every student from start to finish.” She added

The Gender Matters for Green TVET project, supported by the Austrian Development Agency and Jugend Eine Welt, is a four-year program aimed at increasing the participation of young individuals in technical education.

It underscores the importance of gender equity and inclusivity in building a brighter future for all.

The celebration of International Teachers’ Day in Gatenga serves as a reminder of the vital role teachers play in shaping society and the collective efforts needed to empower the next generation.

Basigayabo Jean Bosco, the Education Inspector for Gatenga Sector, highlighted the importance of acknowledging the top-performing schools in Gatenga as a means of appreciating the dedication of teachers and encouraging them to maintain high standards in educating Rwanda’s children.

In line with the theme of today, which centers on “Valuing teacher voices: towards a new social contract for education,” Mr. Basigayabo noted that teachers are now being valued not only through their salaries but also through various programs aimed at improving their quality of life.

He emphasized, “It is certain that a well-supported and respected teacher will undoubtedly excel in their role.”

Apart from Don Bosco Gatenga TSS, other schools in the Sector with the highest performance during the last year’s National Examination were also recognized.
