Kagame and Ujiri Officially Launch Zaria Court Kigali, Highlighting Support, Community, and Growth

President Paul Kagame and Masai Ujiri officially inaugurated the fully-equipped Zaria Court Kigali, a $25 million (over 36 billion Rwf) multi-purpose facility that symbolizes community support and development. The event, held in Remera on the evening of Monday, July 28, 2025, was attended by notable figures including the Minister of Sports, Nelly Mukazayire; Zaria Group CEO Andrew Feinsten; Amadou Gallo Fall of the Basketball Africa League; Clare Akamanzi of NBA Africa; RDB CEO Jean-Guy Afrika; and Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote.

Zaria Court Kigali is more than just a sports complex; it encompasses an 80-room hotel, restaurants, a rooftop bar, a gym, offices, and a recording studio. The complex also features a stadium that hosts various sports, festivals, concerts, a vibrant market, and community activities, creating a diverse hub for residents and visitors alike.

Andrew Feinsten emphasized the vital role played by leadership in making the project a reality, acknowledging that without the visions of President Kagame and Masai Ujiri, this ambitious development would not have been possible. Ujiri, founder of Giants of Africa and owner of Zaria Court, praised Kagame’s leadership in connecting people through infrastructure, highlighting sports as a powerful unifier.

The facility exemplifies the transformative power of sports and community building, driving not only recreation and business but also fostering economic growth and social cohesion. Ujiri articulated how the stadium and surrounding infrastructure are designed to create value, support the economy, and serve as a space where children can play, families can gather, and communities can unite.

President Kagame, during the opening ceremony, shared insights about the importance of support and enabling others to succeed. He reflected on his personal journey, acknowledging that while he may not excel in sports or business, his role is to support those with talent and potential. This philosophy guides his vision for development, emphasizing that enabling others ultimately benefits the whole nation.

He also highlighted the vision behind the development of the sports city, which includes the arena, stadium, and supporting amenities, aiming to create opportunities for commerce, recreation, and community connection. The project’s construction, launched in August 2023, relied heavily on local resources, with over 90% of materials sourced within Rwanda, reinforcing the country’s drive toward self-reliance.

Kagame expressed hope that their efforts will inspire others beyond Rwanda’s borders and stressed the importance of collaboration. His commitment to building supportive communities through infrastructure remains at the heart of this endeavor, demonstrating that when leaders enable others, they foster sustainable growth and unity across society.
