The project, valued at Rwf 165 billion, includes a Rwf 97 billion loan financed by the French Development Agency (AFD). The investment is expected to transform the hospital into a modern medical facility capable of delivering specialized and high-quality healthcare services.

Preparatory activities for the construction are already underway, with 12 hospital services temporarily relocated to different facilities across Musanze City. These include the hospital administration, physiotherapy, internal medicine, non-communicable diseases services, and pediatric care departments.

The relocation was followed by demolition works to pave the way for the construction of the new modern facilities.

The project will also focus on strengthening the skills of healthcare workers, particularly those involved in emergency medicine, intensive care, and maternal healthcare, with support from AFD.

Ruhengeri Level Two Teaching Hospital has remained one of the key healthcare institutions serving Rwanda’s Northern province and has been operational for 87 years, a legacy that has prompted the need for a major transformation aligned with modern healthcare standards.
