Rwanda Calls for Stronger Investment in Technology and Youth Innovation Across Africa
Rwanda has called for increased investment in technology-driven initiatives and innovation programs targeting young people across Africa, arguing that the continent’s long-term economic transformation will largely depend on empowering its youthful population with digital skills and opportunities.
The message was delivered by Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, during the South Korea–Africa Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held on June 1, 2026.
During the meeting, Rwanda emphasized that the partnership between South Korea and African nations should continue to be guided by the principles of sustainable development and cooperation aligned with Africa’s Agenda 2063 vision.
Minister Nduhungirehe stressed the importance of accelerating projects that promote digital transformation, innovation, and technology-based economic growth across Africa, particularly those designed to equip young people with the tools needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving global economy.
He also highlighted the growing potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a catalyst for Africa’s development, noting that stronger collaboration in knowledge sharing, skills development, and innovation could help unlock new opportunities across multiple sectors.
Rwanda further welcomed ongoing discussions between South Korea and African countries on mineral resources, calling for stronger mechanisms to add value to Africa’s minerals through industrialization, technology transfer, local processing, and job creation.
Minister Nduhungirehe also underscored the need for deeper cooperation in modern and environmentally sustainable agriculture, food security, healthcare systems, as well as the manufacturing of medicines and vaccines on the African continent.
In addition, Rwanda reaffirmed its commitment to supporting peacekeeping efforts in Africa and under the United Nations framework, while expressing appreciation for South Korea’s continued support to initiatives aimed at promoting peace and security across the continent.
