Former ARCOS Board Chair John Yonazi Salehe Passes Away
Arusha, Tanzania – June 19, 2026 – The African Conservation Centre for Sustainable Development (ARCOS Network) has announced with deep sorrow the passing of its former Board Chair, Mr. John Gospel Yonazi Salehe, who died peacefully in the early hours of June 19, 2026, in Arusha, Tanzania.
In a condolence message shared with partners, friends, and members of the conservation community, ARCOS described Salehe as a dedicated conservation leader whose contributions left a lasting impact across Tanzania, East Africa, and the wider region.
According to the organization, Salehe served as a member of the ARCOS Board of Directors from 2017 to 2025, including the last four years as Board Chair. During his tenure, he played a significant role in guiding the organization’s strategic direction and strengthening its mission of promoting biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, and community resilience across Africa.
ARCOS paid tribute to Salehe’s commitment to environmental conservation and regional cooperation, noting that he worked with numerous organizations throughout Tanzania and East Africa during his distinguished career.
“John was a true guiding light for conservation in our region,” the organization said in its statement. “Beyond his incredible professional contributions, we will deeply miss his jokes, his warmth, and his unique gift for bringing people together.”
