Today, Gakenke District joined the rest of the world in celebrating International Labor’s Day, a significant occasion dedicated to recognizing the invaluable contribution of workers to national development. This year’s celebration was guided by a powerful theme: “Working together to enhance skills development, boost job creation, and strengthen domestic economic resilience.” The event brought together district leaders, employees, and various stakeholders, all united by a shared vision of progress and sustainable growth.

The ceremony was attended by the President of the District Council, Mugwiza Télésphore, alongside members of the District Executive Committee and staff. Their presence underscored the importance of collective leadership and collaboration in advancing the district’s development agenda. The atmosphere was marked by a strong sense of purpose, as participants reflected on achievements made and renewed their commitment to improving productivity and service delivery.

In his message, Mugwiza Télésphore expressed sincere appreciation to all workers for their dedication and vital role in improving the district’s performance indicators. He emphasized that the determination, skills, and professionalism demonstrated by employees are key pillars that continue to drive the district toward achieving its development targets. According to him, the workforce remains a central force in fulfilling the district’s performance contracts and ensuring tangible results for citizens.

Leaders at the event encouraged employees to intensify efforts in initiatives that promote economic growth and improve the well-being of Rwandans. They highlighted that quality work, discipline, and innovation are essential ingredients for sustainable development. Workers were reminded that their daily contributions no matter how small collectively shape the future of the community.

In a moment that added inspiration and recognition to the celebration, the district leadership also honored outstanding employees who demonstrated exceptional performance and commitment to service. Among them, NSHIMIYIMANA Levis, the district’s Information Technology Officer, was recognized as the best-performing employee. His dedication, innovation, and professionalism were highlighted as a model for others, reflecting the transformative role of technology in improving service delivery and accelerating development.

A strong call was also made for innovation, particularly in income-generating activities. Mr. Mugwiza urged employees to think creatively and embrace new ideas that can generate revenue and enhance the district’s financial capacity. Such initiatives, he noted, are crucial in addressing social challenges and improving the livelihoods of citizens. By fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, the district can build a more resilient and self-reliant economy.

The celebration concluded with a shared understanding among all participants that the path to sustainable development lies in unity, hard work, and continuous improvement. International Workers’ Day served not only as a moment of recognition but also as a powerful platform to inspire renewed energy and commitment. With a skilled and motivated workforce, Gakenke District stands well-positioned to overcome challenges, seize opportunities, and build a brighter future for all.
