Great Britain Defeats Rwanda 75-61 in Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifiers

In a highly anticipated match, Great Britain emerged victorious over Rwanda with a final score of 75-61 in the Group C preliminary qualifiers for the Basketball World Cup in women. The game, held on Thursday night, August 22, 2024 at BK Arena, was attended by President Kagame and Madam Jeannette Kagame.

Rwanda started strong with players Uwizeye Assouma and Murekatete Bella scoring early points. However, Great Britain quickly took control of the game with Maya Price and Holly Winterburn leading the charge. By halftime, Great Britain was leading with a significant margin of 45-23.

Despite Rwanda’s efforts to close the gap in the second half, Great Britain maintained their lead with Savannah Wilkinson playing a key role for the team. In the end, Great Britain secured a 75-61 victory over Rwanda.

Murekatete Bella was the top scorer for Rwanda with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Holly Winterburn led Great Britain with 15 points, seven rebounds, and six steals.

In the upcoming 1/2 matches on Saturday, August 24, 2024, Rwanda will face Senegal while Great Britain will take on Hungary. Both teams are looking to secure their spots in the next stage of the competition.
