Dusengiyumva Samuel Re-elected as Mayor of Kigali City
Dusengiyumva Samuel, the incumbent Mayor of Kigali City, has been re-elected to lead the city once again with 397 votes, only one vote shy of a unanimous victory. He reassured citizens that infrastructure issues in affected areas will be promptly addressed.
Having first assumed office on December 15, 2023, following the appointment of his predecessor as Governor of the Eastern Province, Dusengiyumva Samuel’s re-election on August 22, 2024, demonstrated overwhelming support from the electorate.
During his swearing-in ceremony as a member of the Kigali City Council, Dusengiyumva Samuel pledged to prioritize resolving infrastructure challenges, particularly in Gasabo where issues with roads and water persist.
Fulgence Dusabimana secured the position of Vice Mayor of the City of Kigali in charge of Infrastructure with 68% of the votes, defeating his opponent Gatera Frank. Meanwhile, Urujeni Martine was re-elected as Vice Mayor of Kigali City overseeing Economy and Social Affairs with 100% of the votes.
Martine, who has served in this role for two and a half years, outlined plans to address social issues such as family conflicts, street children, and supporting street vendors. He emphasized a focus on assisting vulnerable populations, including Persons with disability and youth, with increased budget allocations.
