Democratic Green Party of Rwanda Continues Campaign in Eastern Province: Promises and Plans for a Better Future
On the third day of the national electoral campaign for the upcoming presidential and legislative elections scheduled for July 2024, the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda (DGPR) continued its campaign rallies in Ngoma and Kayonza Districts in the Eastern Province on Monday, June 24.
Dr. Frank HABINEZA, the party’s chairperson and presidential candidate, along with 50 party candidate deputies (26 men and 24 women) was welcomed in the province by the mayor of the Ngoma District, Mrs. Nathalie NIYONGIRA.
In her speech, Mrs. Nathalie urged the public to comprehend the Green Party’s manifesto to make the right choice.
She said, “You should choose according to what you need. I wish you a good choice.”
The party’s Secretary General, Jean Claude NTEZIMANA, assured the population of the districts that his party, which he represents as the guarantor of the people, does not lie and that consequently, it has achieved over 70% of its manifesto projects.
He emphasized the benefits of increased teacher salaries, reduced property taxes from 300 Frw/m2 to 80 Frw/m2, immediate access to mutual health insurance without waiting 1 month, and the provision of food to schoolchildren.
Dr. Frank HABINEZA, the presidential candidate, said that once elected President of the Republic, his party plans to implement projects for Rwandans’ benefit, including removing 30-day temporary imprisonment, increasing agricultural production, establishing a compensation fund for imprisoned individuals who later become innocent and will be paid for their damage and loss of income caused by unjust incarceration.
He added that his party will promote food self-sufficiency through irrigation and cultivating fields during the dry season, reducing VAT tax from 18% to 14% to facilitate the consumer, eliminating unemployment by creating 5,000 jobs each year, increasing doctor salaries, and creating production units and job search centers.
While campaigning in Ngoma District, Dr. Frank assured that once elected president, he would reopen the University of Kibungo (UNIK), formerly the Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Education of Kibungo (INATEK) after a few years of closure due to inadequate quality education, emphasizing that this will aid the residents of these areas in enhancing the quality of education and providing access to it.
He said, “There used to be a university in Ngoma District that accepted and sponsored children from the surrounding districts. “If you trust me, I promise to immediately restore that university.”
While in Kayonza, Dr. Frank emphasized the importance of creating tourist spots in Akagera National Park to attract foreign and local travelers, thereby contributing to their development.
He added that upon election, individuals with Community-Based Health Insurance (Mutuelle) will be able to use their insurance to purchase medicines at a pharmacy.
He said, “We are the ones who came up with the idea that if you have health insurance (Mutuelle), you will pay for treatment immediately, if you trust me, others will be done too.”
Dr. Frank HABINEZA is running against the incumbent President Paul KAGAME of the ruling RPF-Inkotanyi and an independent candidate, Philippe MPAYIMANA.
